"If there's anyone who understands the urgency of meeting this challenge in a personal and powerful way, it is the woman who will become our nation's next surgeon general, Dr. Regina Benjamin. The list of qualifications that make Dr. Benjamin an outstanding candidate to be America's leading spokesperson on issues of public health are long indeed. She was in the second class at Morehouse School of Medicine and went on to earn an M.D. from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and an MBA from Tulane. She served as associate dean for rural health at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine, and in 1995, she became the first physician under 40 and the first African American woman to be named to the American Medical Association's board of trustees." (Obama in press conference yesterday)
Did Obama say African American Woman? Educated at two prominent historically black Colleges? American Medical Association Board member? On top of that, Benjamin became the first African American Woman President of Alabama State Medical Association. That isn't a typo readers. I'm scared to walk down the street in parts of Alabama and this Woman became the president of their Medical Association.
You know, I have my doubts about Obama's promise of change. He's apart of a system that has never had the interest of its citizens at heart. This system makes the rich richer, the most powerful even more powerful, and the average american happily ignorant, distracted and dependent upon the government to survive. However, I'm really pleased with his decisions to nominate Dr. Regina Benjamin and my girl Sotomayor (who was probably sweating bullets at her confirmation hearings today.)Obama is making me a believer slowly but surely, and its a little scary.
Benjamin sounds like an Amazing Doctor and a Hero who's been through many storms of life (including Katrina) and came out on top. Watch the vid! I really love this Woman!
